Chapter 13

Overkill...

March 22nd, another small alien craft is downed in northwest Africa, and the Skyranger is launched to secure the crash site. avianchild and Atlas are kept on the sidelines, as are the wounded Gemini, Peace Keeper 2014, and TheAppleFreak.

The Skyranger touches down in the desert on the edge of a sandy cliff face, with a large plateau to the craft's right, obscured by a large sand dune.  The cliff removes the need for them to watch the Skyranger's left flank, but less fortunately the dune severely limits their visibility in the other direction.  Luckily, drpdrp97 spots a patrolling Floater around the side of the dune before it can spot the hidden Skyranger.  His plasma rifle removes the alien before it can signal their location.

Over the dune, MooterZolo-Kira gets a peek of another distant Floater on patrol, also unaware of their presence, but it is so far away he decides to hold fire until enough of the team can get in position to ensure the kill.

Two contingents form up: one with drpdrp97 to go around the near end of the dune, and another with MooterZolo-Kira to charge over the top.  Twio, part of drpdrp97's force, sneaks forward and spots the third Floater of the mission.  dreamowd drops to one knee and makes it the second dead Floater of the mission.

Snickie, with MooterZolo-Kira, risks another peek over the dune to resight the earlier Floater.  Some good fortune: the Floater is facing away, and hasn't heard the cries of its fallen brethren.

Informed by Snickie's scouting, drpdrp97 and jacobbeahm fire through the channel separating "their" dune and the next, positioned like waves in an ocean of sand. jacobbeahm neatly scores the kill.

No more aliens are encountered: when they come across the alien ship, it is apparent why.  Its legendarily resilient hull had been all but split in two by the crash.  There isn't much to recover from the wreck.
